Tsukuba Research Center
Analyzing unmet medical needs and conducting innovative basic research to discover new drug candidates
The Tsukuba Research Center is responsible for basic research to discover new drug candidatesin the therapeutic areas of oncology, allergy/immunology, and urology. In order to discover compounds that have strong potential to become safe new drugs with outstanding therapeutic effects, the center searches for new targets, identifies new compounds, assesses efficacy and safety, and elucidates mechanism of action. It also conducts research to facilitate promotion of proper drug use in the future.

Tokushima Research Center
Pursuing efficacy, safety, and commercialization technologies to advance candidates from clinical trials to medicines that contribute to actual medical care
The Tokushima Research Center’s activities range widely from research on commercialization technology beginning at the start of new drug discovery to post-marketing drug development. It uses the research results provided by the Tsukuba Research Center to perform the non-clinical testing required for applications to Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency and other relevant authorities. Leveraging the strong connections it has developed with attending clinical physicians, this center also seeks tie-ups with everyday practice settings to advance research intended to expand drug efficacy and to promote proper use, and to conduct research to establish treatment regimens suited to individual patients that are highly effective with few side effects.
The Tokushima Research Center is also in charge of controls to ensure smooth commercialization along specific themes, from the stage of new drug discovery until drugs reach patients. The constant objective is to provide a stable supply of drugs that are beneficial to patients. For that reason, this center conducts technical research that is up to international standards and establishes efficient manufacturing processes in pursuit of quality that includes everything right down to the fine details of shape and packaging.
Clinical Development
Managing clinical trials to ensure new medicines reach those who need them
The Clinical Development Center is in charge of submitting applications to regulatory authorities. It gathers data on efficacy and safety by monitoring clinical trial participants.
The other important missions of this center are to establish new treatment methodologies in consultation with doctors and to maintain good commu-nication with medical care professionals to make sure that trials are being conducted according to study protocols. It manages clinical trials overall, paying careful attention to each detail while stressing speed and quality for the benefit of patients who place their hopes in new drugs.
